     @Twoinchdestroya @Omega_Variant @Varus Too much, man. Depends on the plane but if you wanted to charter something like CO to FL I think it’d be like $12,000 for a small jet. I think the job I’m on right now has cost at least $4800 in gas alone, not sure how much the ferry job invoices for them, I’m sure I’m seeing a tiny fraction of the bill.

     If you don’t need to get there in a hurry i could do….a third of that, depending on the plane. For reference, most shitbox, “affordable”, as cheap as you can rent ‘em planes today will run at LEAST $150/hr from what I see….and those go like, 120 mph at cruise. Double that cost, and you can basically double the speed.

     @Twoinchdestroya @Omega_Variant @Varus Like, we landed earlier and I was making small talk with the desk chick watching this vintage, 70’s seneca twin taxiing out. Those are expensive now, twice the engine per hour, and I asked how busy they were at their $550/hr rental cost. She said they can’t keep them on the ground, they have tons of people buying a block of 100 hrs or more constantly.

     Who the hell knows how they fund that, she had no idea. I can’t imagine the bank is cool, or that the GI bill just lets you drop that money on a dude with a plane.

     @Twoinchdestroya @Omega_Variant @Varus Once we get these faggy e-planes going you might see something happen with them. I know a guy who’s keeping tabs on those, the second they have one that can fly 3 hour blocks and recharge in the same he wants to buy a handful and open up a school/rental place to undercut everyone at 1/2 the cost.

     You can do very well - or be destroyed - depending on the plane. I’ve seen guys make insane money on owning a shitbox and renting it out, but you’re gambling on the fact that you’ll never have to do a $25,000-50,000 engine replacement when something breaks.

     @Twoinchdestroya @Omega_Variant @Varus Some of, if not the top three greatest pilots I’ve ever seen in action were flight sim guys.

     Not so much a matter of them practicing a lot, it’s only marginally effective overall, but it’s more of an indicator of how invested you are in flying. We have so many rich kids getting in because their daddy’s a captain at delta now, they kind of approach it with an ambivalence that means they only get things at a surface level.

     At this point, I’d unironically prefer flying with a low-time dude with 500 hrs of sim time over a high-time old guy set in his ways

     Gas engine costs $160 per hour

     Electric costs $45 per hour

     those bad ideas matter a lot less now

     I think of it as being in true command. Do you know where you are, what your power state is, what it needs to be to be set up perfectly for where you want to be 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes from now?

     It’s all about thinking ahead and being able to prioritize what you deal with first while not getting bogged down in stupid shit. Guys will get their head down looking in the box, trying to diagnose some missing waypoint while they’re headed into a hillside at 200 mph

     @Twoinchdestroya @IsraelDelendaEst @Omega_Variant @Varus There’s a model now, takes about 2.5 hrs to charge, gets you a 1.5 hour flight time so it’s perfect for training. Power delivery blows away a lot of shit engines, most GA stuff is lucky to have a 180 hp burning 9 gallons an hour (at….9 bucks a gallon right now?) most have anywhere from 100,110, 125, 140, or 160 still so a bunch of instant thrust would be a giant step up
