     @Groomschild @Gerfand I suspect they had to tinker with the missiles a bit to ensure they’d be able to one-shot it. Had they launched on day 1 it risked embarrassment when the seeker missed the balloon- not really something they planned on shooting down ever

     @Gerfand Well american bureaucracy is glacially slow so it probably took the military a whole day just to come up with a procedure to shooting down balloons

     @Groomschild @Gerfand That too, but by the 2nd day everyone should have figured where they stand. Airspace violation is a very big deal, they didn’t start considering things when it hit the news, they’d already been talking about it for a day or so

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Gerfand Nah it definitely something more petty like the top brass needed to form up an do a little pow wow group meeting where they spent hours discussing the risk of shooting down a balloon and who would get the privilege of doing it.
