Kid me enjoyed games way more than I do now. And there's online stuff that's lost media now which I would've enjoyed a lot more had I been able to buy stuff.
I just can't help but think what kind of experiences I could've had had I been born into a sane family
@Meemoo@RehnSturm256 I get it. Every so often I'll have a moment of awareness for how bad things have gotten and panic. Couldn't even sleep last night because of one. I feel you man :ars_pat:
@Minty@RehnSturm256 I spent majority of my teens on PS home trying the free demos of the mini-games and hanging out with people there and settling on freebie clothes but could never buy the full games and coop with friends
Sony eventually killed it in favor of the PS4 and never made a sequel
I miss hopping on my JP alt and seeing the crazy worlds they had. I remember liking the dragon quest ones and generally just roaming around in the different environments of other games :yuudachi_tired:
@Echigo@Minty@RehnSturm256 dude I met a Japanese chick but we couldn't hang out much because I couldn't buy anything. No games no zones no nothing and after years she unfriended me
@Meemoo@Minty@RehnSturm256 Oh PS4 does or did have games that tried to fill the void of PS Home, but they never took off like Home did. Wouldn't be surprised if they are gone now.
@Echigo@Meemoo@Minty@RehnSturm256 pretty much But it's also because most girls don't use voice chat in a entire lobby with dudes unless they are e girl succubuses/whore irl/childless unmarried women/fat fucks trying to hook in a dude or simps But most random lobbies especially in cs is all trash talk or actually trying to communicate enemy positions/info
@luithe@Meemoo@Minty@RehnSturm256 Oh yeah that's another thing. With the rise of Discord in-game voice chat basically has no use aside from telling other players how trash they are. Back in the early 2000s voice chat was the hot new thing and it made the experience of online games better, even with all the shit talking.
@Meemoo@Minty@RehnSturm256 I someone who was born in 2000s and experienced early 2000s gaming it beats out modern gaming by a landslide, especially when it comes to community and discovery. Back when the internet was still developing and every bit of gaming news wasn't readily available. It felt like every new game you found out about was a new personal experience. It's why the Touch Detective series is one of my favorites because I never seen anyone talk about it. This small little gem hiding in the corner of the DS game library.
Nowadays this sort of feeling is rare to experience because of how the internet has become so important to our everyday lives. I see why there are communities out there that exist around lost media.
All that voice moderation bullshit and every company making it their mortal mission to rob players of their money incentivized people to use private discord calls for communication instead
@Meemoo@Echigo@Minty@RehnSturm256 cs and bloons community is pretty much the only communities still stuck in 2014-2017 internet where someone will call you retarded for certain tower placements and upgrades or to kys Cs is cs still, they don't give a fuck about moderating it or giving a fuck about the free form stickers saying faggot, nigger, or shit like dick in my ass :cat_laugh:
The pinnacle for me was a game called Air warrior 3. Crew up a b17 and man it with 6 other guys. Each actually calling out incoming fighters. You'd get 10-12 bombers in a group each with guys crewing it. All the attacking planes were also real people.
@Meemoo I remember frequenting the same TF2 CTF server nearly every day after school from 2010 - 2014, it was an indescribable feeling of comfy to join the server and have regulars greet you, i miss fragradio and messed up sprays, it was a special time buit one day you might look back to the fediverse and feel the same way, cherish your days
