   Weird people of the fediverse who are against fediblock: why don’t you begin complaining about the worst offenders of them all TruthSocial or TheGab? They have literally defederated, i.e. blocked everyone.

   Don’t complain about people who just want to be left alone, complain about those who by default defederate.

     That’s why I’m working on a Wiki (https://fediblock.wiki) which will provide accurate sources for every claim so people can verify anything anyone says. If any new thing comes up and someone does a “#” “Fediblock” they can link to the wiki and show an entry so every user can decide for themselves whether it’s a real threat or the claim is real.

     But yeah, people from poa.st, freespeechextremist.com, bae.st, shitposter.club, etc. are against the concept of defederating (except for spam, etc.) at all.

     I don't know where you got that idea from.
     The server is ran but their admins and they have all rights to defederste from whatever they wish.
     
     The issue people take with fediblock is that it's easily abused and creates a cycle of trusting frequent contributor on it as the authority on what should be and shouldn't be block, without having little to no conversation over with the people being blocked.
     And if you happens to get on the wrong side according to them, you would be on the fediblock next.

     Yeah, but still, I never see ANYONE who complains about “Fediblock” complain about the people that literally have everyone fediblocked as they don’t care about federation.

     I mean, since you’re capable of justifying TruthSocial, TheGab, and also Cohost for entirely defederating with everyone, you can clearly comprehend why Fediblock is important, right?

     The point of my post was to show how defederation from specific instances is helpful and the people who always argue against it never seem to criticize the far right instances that never cared about the federation in the first place and essentially fediblocked everyone, I just find that ambivalent.

     @Erik I did, the thing is truth social never federated, because they never cared about fediverse, they just took mastodon because it was free software.
     
     Gab on the other hand was bullied out of here, because it's CEO was thin skinned and did a lot of things which people from all sides didn't liked.
     
     But they aren't the only ones who have defederated in ways like this. One of the bigger examples is cohost which was also got "bullied" (they claim) by the "Mastodon network" side.

     I'm saddened by admins making unfounded blocking decision for their users. Mastodon.art is a great instance with great people, but their pathological admin blocks every other instance, even limits mastodon.social.
     
     this is bad for other instances who cannot interact, but it's worst for the artists who don't get exposure and contracts from other instances.
     
     it's an abuse of trust, since the admin claims that other instances are dangerous and must be blocked - even if there has never been a negative interaction involving their users.
     
     and there is no recourse for us blocked instances and no way to inform the artists about this.

     It's funny because unless you blackhole an IP like FSE does, the other instance will still see your posts anyway.

     not to be overly critical, but fediblock precisely encourages blocking without checking. the core idea of exchanging a list of x instances to block (even with justification) literally encourages it regardless of whether its a tag or a wiki.
     
     Fediblock really doesnt do anything helpful, it just gives some power tripping janny a way to "reign supreme" over an instance. As an admin myself i just really wait for garbage to end up in my public tl and then apply an mrf as i see fit whenever. But its really in extreme cases, I dont block instances because of political bs (unlike 90% of mastodon instances)

     @Erik @ishtar I know you won't see this, but posts like this are exactly why people assume "Mastodon Network" types aren't willing to engage in good faith. People on this side have criticized Truth Social and Gab many, many times, not just for their federation practices. As others have stated, including fellow travelers among leftist/liberal circles such as yourself, the issues with Fediblock have more to do with its insanely toxic community, the guilt-by-association practice, the constant purity spiraling, and the public kafkatrapping of other admins by publishing spurious claims as to how they run their instances. Fediblock could potentially be a valuable resource for handling instances that do things like try to scam or post CSAM, but instead it's used as a way for liberal admins to pathologize people disagreeing with them. As with most systems, it's the people that ruin it.

     @Erik@social.uden.ai lmao what? there's a difference between an instance choosing not to federate simply because they don't want to be a part of fedi, and groups of large, influential mastodon instances dogpiling on other random instances with often-false accusations of pedophilia, racism, nazism, etc. and getting angry when people ask them to back up those accusations with any proof at all. going out into the field to yell at straw men doesn't make you look any smarter.

     Gab IIRC was actually a part of the fedi for a brief period and it was very jank. I remember kf.cc having federation issues with it and others as well, and that's when they weren't being trolled by the other side of the fedi.
     
     I'm sure someone from that time will chime in too about Gab flipping shit over anime.

     @PhenomX6@fedi.pawlicker.com They banned 9th for "spam". I've been on this instance for two years and not once have I seen a spam problem. They do have "friendly with freespeechextremist" as one of their reasons, and I'm inclined to believe that's the actual reason given they've proven to be liars in your case. I've never seen you post any loli whatsoever.
     
     The reason that Gab and Truth Social don't get shit on is because they were never part of the fediverse to begin with, they just use their tools. mastodon dot art with its simply false reasoning for blocks is much more harmful to the fediverse.

     @PhenomX6 @flaky I remember their implementation of their Mastodon mod being very poorly done, to the point that other servers were getting spammed with glitchy requests, and the question became "is it worth federating with them if their shitty code is destroying our bandwidth bill?" Then there was them not sharing avatars properly and things like that. I'm sure it was worse than I said and others would know more.
