Just stumbled on the Zellij terminal multiplexer/workspace and I really quite like it (especially if you start it in locked mode and only unlock to create new panes, navigate between panes, etc., so it doesn’t interfere with other apps like Helix Editor).

@aral If memory serves, Zellij also supports Sixel, which I find to be a grossly underrated technology.

@aral yeah, someone on Matrix used the term "SNAZ stack" (starship, nushell, alacritty, zellij)
I'm gradually replacing old C/Cpp code with new memory-safe equivalents, but haven't jumped on helix yet (that can be next)

PS. Does Zellij have any way of reloading its config automatically when it changes?
I have this tiny utility called Lipstick on a Pig that can automatically update the themes in command-line tools so that they change when the system goes from light mode to dark mode and back. Would be awesome to have Zellij do that so you didn’t have to quit/restart it :)

Unfortunately Zellij cannot reload config at runtime just yet. The upcoming release will be all about reloading layouts at runtime though (to give us stuff like stacked panes: https://hachyderm.io/@imsnif/109722859709878513)
In the coming months I'll be concentrating on improving the plugin system - and so will likely add this capability and many more. Stay tuned!

@aral I think I ended up having to go with Wezterm instead; I think Zellij was having some challenges dealing with constantly being resized on my i3-based desktop. But it's otherwise a very powerful package.
On a broader note, modern Sixel is really so amazing I keep imagining a "smol personal computer" that basically powers a Sixel terminal.
