   Just been blown away by how good Narrator and Live Captions are on Windows and it makes me even angrier that they aren’t just building an OS but an ad-and-AI infested surveillance nightmare. Mainly because it shows, yet again, what we could achieve in technology if everything wasn’t tied to a toxic business model and a suicidal system of perpetual growth with finite resources.

   This should also shame the Linux folks (not volunteers, multi-billion/trillion-dollar corporations who profit from it).

     (Go on, you don’t even have to really care about disabled people and you don’t even have to give up being sociopaths — it’s good PR. Win-win, assholes.)

     If you want Live Captions on Linux, check out https://github.com/abb128/LiveCapt – you can also find it on Flathub and it works splendidly and, unlike the Windows version, it automatically saves a transcript. This is perfect for making your live streams and videos more accessible. And it’s free and open source.

     @aral @owncast @peertube no worries, it happens. Looks very interesting! I bookmarked it for my software stacks.

     Those have by now actually grown quite well.

     You could not only use this in lifestreams, but on-the-floor presentations as well.

     I just tried it. Really straightforward, even regarding the french model selection. Though it is better at recognizing my english rather my french 😁

     I experimented with xttsv2 (check alltalk_tts if you want to play with it) on tge weekend and it always hits me so hard that we have most of the software in the open source but we severely lack the means of integration.
