@Rasterman there always existed faggots who prided themselves as "intelectuals" and kept spouting stupid "sayings", that are still quoted today. Oscar Wilde, for instance.
The difference is that back then the "pursuit of intellect" was very costly and hardly accessible, so every "intelectual" was either someone rich or a someone who had contacts and was a protégé of a rich person. Nowadays any retard can put himself into 200k student debt to utterly fail in life and blame "the system" for all his problems.

Have intellectuals existed before modern times? There are Renaissance men and scientists, but those are not the same.
