The good news is that I avoided installing windows 95 today.
the bad news? I'm installing Visual Basic 6 instead.

image designed to scare web developers
@cadey probably yeah but I don't think it's possible to stop me now
@foone do you need help
@foone I made so many bad life choices with VB6, like the time I started writing a set of IRC services bots in it.
@fwaggle nice! I wrote an IRC client in it once. it was a mess
yeah I had to do some confirmation: I loaded up a clean windows 95 machine, installed a clean visual studio 6, compiled a blank VB6 project with no code, and it set off 6 antiviruses on virustotal
gonna distribute my app by installing windows 95 into a VM and then bundling DOSBox-X with the disk image, running my app inside it
@cadey definitely not
@foone Do I need to fly back to the bay area?
@clairely_undaunted yes. It was fully powered by VB6
@foone is this ST:TOS Enterprise?
@gomez no code! I did nothing
@foone have you used shellexecute? AVs don’t like that
@sandy oh, me too!
it's just bad news because it currently is 2024, and not 1998
@foone bad news? I have such fond memories of learning to code with VB6. Jumped to other languages eventually but I actually did some vb6 professionally!
