   The CNN host who ate human brains is now saying that the reason most US cities are dirty, dangerous and disgusting is because they are vibrant expressions of democracy. I mean sure if thats the line you want to hang yourself with I'll agree with you, can't really argue with that.
   
   "We can't have pretty things because capitalism demands brutalism and utilitarianism" modern shitlibery is just taking basic right wing takes, asserting them without a hint of irony and then implying that you're weird for thinking thats a bad thing.

     @Shadowman311 Fareed Zakaria spends a lot of time talking about America to Americans but has very little actual understanding of America. When he goes on about "great public expense" he could have talked about the Moscow Metro, or he could have talked about Boston's "Big Dig" or California's "high speed rail to nowhere". Graft and corruption are just as much a part of 21st Century America as it is anywhere else on Earth now, and this clown is too blind to see it.
     
     If his caricature of conservatives desire order it's because they don't want to be raped and murdered for their shoes by people that their forefathers would have either had hung or committed. If "vibrant democracy™" requires dealing with the violent, the disgusting, or the crazy most Americans are learning that they can live without it.

     @Shadowman311 He's absolutely right that democracy and diversity are the reasons US cities are all shitholes. Literally every example of clean efficient urban centers in the world are in authoritarian states where 99% of the people living in the nice parts are the same race.

     Honestly not that bad for brutalism. I've seen worse. The thing about all those solid concrete pours is that they will last forever, but they also are very difficult to demolish or renovate.
     
     The Chemistry building the University of Cincinnati is a great example of a horrible looking building, that is there forever because it's literally too expensive to ever safely demo.

     So by capitalism, he means corrupt politicians handing out contracts for kickbacks. Aren't they the ones that claim Russia is run by corrupt oligarchs? If it's the same on both sides, why are they able to build and maintain nice stuff?
