Why is mk.starnix.network invitation-only but pl.starnix.network and mstdn.starnix.network are open registration? Because Misskey is more exclusive and cool. Not just anyone can use Misskey or become apart of the Misskey network.

That Goldberg account (guy who SWAT'd everyone) did it and the only thing that stopped my domain from becoming a spam vector was my approval requirement.
He got 50 requests in on plasma before he gave up because he wasn't gonna get in.

Oh the other thing is I want to approve accounts. I usually always do, but I want to make sure they aren't bots with garbage emails.
I don't know if misskey ever implemented that. Which is what mstdn and pl have.
