     @mntmn Are those components manufactured in the Chinese mainland? I wonder if it's possible to send me the parts so that I can assemble them myself to avoid paying import tax.

     @oldkid that's not possible for multiple reasons:
     - we don't actually sell pocket reform atm
     - you still would need other components that are assembled here in germany
     - it would be a ton of work for us to manage sending you individual items from bulk orders
     ...

     @mntmn@mastodon.social No, of course not. It may not be pretty but at least it's nice to know how good the soldering is.
     And it's way better than any soldering that I could do by myself.

     @oldkid the only realistic other option is for you to clone the whole thing locally in china (incl PCBs from our files), possible because of OSHW but it would be quite a lot of overhead for 1 unit

     @mntmn no problem, just a thought. Like your anti-facist protest. I just want to avoid funding the autocratic regime - to protest in my own way. Looks like I'll have to pay them some money this time.

     @mntmn that's too much effort. It might be possible while I was working in a mobile company. But nowadays I am developing games. I'll wait for your shipment.

     @mntmn to be honest the main reason I switched my career from doing hardware to software was that the expense of buying hardware components is too high. And I've been living in single rental rooms so I can't set up a home lab.

     @etam @eragon ok so the LED is fine. the solder looks a bit off, like there's a bunch of small particles floating around, as if it was not all fully and smoothly melted could be because this was a quick manual job for checking, and the paste wasn't super fresh
