It seems more like their reliance on government subsidy which reminds me of rationing food. Because they like things like spam. Even their local store sounds like a corner store here, and those don't have as much fresh vegetables or fruits in them because people aren't buying them from there in part. Like you don't expect it from them now. So they have the fizzy drinks and such.
What the Native American reservation gets is basically similar or the same as other places in not only the US but also western countries in general. So it is just weird to hear it spoken of as colonisation, when it is probably closer to being the results of rationing during the war, the industrial and agricultural revolutions. It's not great for anyone though, and we would do better to move away from eating processed foods and supporting smaller farms if we can.- Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this.

I'd be interested to know if that is just how foodbanks are in the US.
A lot of our foodbanks here aren't like that, usually it is volunteered food that goes in... and it is usually supermarket food. It is canned or packaged, things that will last. You don't really get to put fresh food in there because it has to survive the distribution journey. But hopefully that can give people more money to spend on fresh foods. -

Also lard is a great fat that'd be cool for more people to use in place of rapeseed or soybean oil. -
