     @thatguyoverthere Even their examples are bloody terrible. Who could have guessed that local asparagus in-season would be better than flying it from South America in winter? Please give me a useful example, like cabbage or even new potatoes.

     @Flick "the planet is literally on fire" (except my yard. my yard is frozen solid) means nutrition is secondary to reducing your carbon footprint.
     
     But seriously yeah I will never understand how shipping food all over the world is more economical and environmentally friendly than growing a row of corn in the back yard or sectioning off an asparagus patch which will produce for years with little to no effort once it's going.

     @Flick @thatguyoverthere Yes there can be no like-to-like comparison. A tomato from the home-garden tastes like a tomato while the one from Walmart tastes like a facsimile (actually a green tomato turned red with "science"). So, let's see the "carbon footprint" of an *actual*, non-homegrown tomato. 🧐

     @thatguyoverthere @Flick From what I recall (yeah) tomatoes are harvested green at which point they can be stored in nitrogen refrigeration to stop them from aging. When they're ready for sale they're stored in ethylene to hasten them to turn red, but the process has iffy results (thus why a lot of grocery tomatoes taste like tomato-flavored sawdust).
