   the filipina cleaning ladies will always just take off their shoes and clean barefoot. is that normal in SEA?

     That would go along with no shoes in living areas. In CZ we had cleaners only use electric vacuums and such after hours, which I guess was to help people writing code not get distracted. They would sweep and pick the carpets by hand.
