@matty @Myshkin @crewton @n3f_X @olmitch Libertarianism is ideological gun control. A fantasy where you can get everyone to abstain from wielding government power by tying their hands with the law

That kind of authoritarian thinking doesn't mesh with the libertarian audience who, to their great credit, stand by the principle of anti-censorship. That's why there was virtually no moderation and it's the same reason why this "solution" that doesn't seem like it would fix anything is the only possible course of action. Kicking people off or keeping people out for legal speech is so untenable in this community that it's not even on the table. -

You give your enemies the tools they need to grow, then oppress you and take away your rights. I am an authoritarian out of necessity. If I was the leader of this country I would rule with an iron fist, but authority isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't think communists should be able to speak, as they use the right to speak my forefathers gave them to take away my right to speak, then get me fired from my job for questioning it.
Liberarianism would only work in a homogenous society, but that would not be possible because homogeneity is antithetical to the colloquial understanding of "liberty". I believe the people that don't try to fuck kids should have liberty. If I was the leader of this country, you'd never have to file a form to own a suppressor or giggle switch again, and everyone who partook in any of the NKVD style depersoning or literal assassinations of political or ideological dissidents would be dealt with swiftly.
If you give those who wish you destroy you more rights out of principle, you will lose both your principles and your rights. It is a shame, but human nature has not, and never will change. There will always be someone who seeks to have power over you, for one reason or another.
The hardest part about an authoritarian style of government is the succession of leaders. But, is it? Ours is authoritarian now, a has-been republic sold to Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and other defense contractors while your "elected" officials sell your children's futures for a summer home. It is unsustainable. You don't come back from that without a profound change. Maybe one day we can go back to normal elections and a republic where "better men" make the decisions in the best interest of their constituents, rather than their bank accounts. But, until then, and even after, we have to remember that human nature never changes. Even after we win, in 200 years, the new generation will be left in the same boat we are. The advent of better technology and the internet does not change the nature of man, and it does not remove the hold that the devil has on men's hearts. -

crewton (crewton@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 08:27:52 JST crewton Imagine you're a political centrist in the 00s, you make hay because the political polarization that's developing in America is actually unpopular. You coast along until 2016, Trump is elected and you are still in the same place politically. Divisive politics are popular now. What's considered "left" has shifted so far that your neutral/optimistic outlook on Trump makes you no different from a nazi to them. If you eschew both neo-cons and the burgeoning alt-right, then the only people left to associate with are "moderate right" types like Glen Beck, and libertarian types like Rogan and Tom Woods. Fast forward through Trump and into the Biden presidency, is it any surprise you can talk all day long about how mainstream media lies to us but won't say that they're all controlled by the same people? Then you get to the end of 2023, jewish control has gone mask off, israel is just bombing entire neighborhoods while saying babies are being put in ovens with no evidence. Being neutral on jews/israel is unpopular but officially the safest position to take. You now have enough clout that you could feasibly get into political office but you have a website attached to your show that's maybe 5-10% people dropping redpills and merchant memes all day every day. What do you do?
