     @weaf @MoeBritannica Some of them seem to be wanting work for themselves though. If an amateur VA will work for free without hassle, sure, do that. But even before AI I don't think there was a horde of actual, putting-in-the-effort VAs doing free work for mods like this.

     @weaf @MoeBritannica I am growing increasingly tired of voice acting in video games and desire more of them to return to predominately, or purely, text for dialogue and narration.

     Most of it is dogshit. It’s the same 4 VAs who do an OK job phoning it in, plus some idiotic nigger influencer they pay because they figure having BIG NAME INFLUENCER™ will draw in more kids (and they’re probably right) who sucks ass at actually getting into a character and… voice ACTING.

     how many theater actors and other random people, who already have the skill, are being hired anymore for any of this?

     most of the ones I remember are dying off or have died off. Like Tony Jay (voiced Megabyte in “ReBoot” and did a few CRPGs). The VA for Kreia in KOTOR 2 is a classically trained shakespearean theater actress. you ain’t getting that anymore.

     so… compared to SHIT… yes, an AI is far better, sure. But I’d rather text.
