my first experience with DLC was Battlefield 3. I bought the game used for $20, but then had to pay $40 for all the DLC to completely play the online game.
If you really want to put the blame down, Steam and Half-Life 2 is where it all started.
I've got a story to tell, so buckle up.
I was a 19 year old buck, ready for adventure. 9/11 just happened, and time to fuck those terrorists up.
Prior to Iraq deployment buy a gaming laptop.
Go to Iraq, no internet.
Mom, being a cool ass mom, buys me Half-Life 2 CD and sends it overseas for my birthday.
Multiple friends and my commander die during this deployment. A video game is a good escape, thank you, Mom.
Install the game, and immediately asks for a sign in to stream. What the fuck!?!?!
I can't even touch the game until I go home on midtour leave 11 months into the deployment and have internet access.
To this day, I will not even approach Half-Life 2. I don't care if it's the best game ever. That whole drm shit ruined it.

nah, I paid something like $22 for my Minecraft in 2013, and haven't paid another dime since. Notch ain't to blame for the current state of games.

@CatLord Under Section 501 of the Australian Migration Act, someone sent to jail for 12 months or longer can have their visa cancelled, and be deported to the country of their birth.
A bunch of criminal nogs get sent back to New Zealand despite having lived most of their life in aus. Here's the thing: a ton of these nogs never get full citizenship because their parents don't think of it and they all have a lack of agency.
