   I don't usually do this. But you might want to report this holocaust-denying antisemitic guy who puts up video of white supremacists ranting at their worst. Admiring Hitler etc. At FIRST I thought the guy was satirizing. But the stuff he shared is authentic white supremacist material. He is here as Captain Retard @HumongusChungus

     @JohnShirley2023 Since each instance is run independently, mastodon itself has no authority to prevent it—but well-run instances can choose to defederate from abusive ones, which breaks all visibility in both directions.

     You might want move to an instance that has strong policies against racism, abuse, etc. There are a lot of good small ones, and I lucked into an aggressively moderated big one here, so I almost never see the cesspits.

     @kissane It's not a case of just not seeing it. If Mastodon's servers are being used for this, then Mastodon can TAKE authority to prevent it. Why should they give their resources to people who endorse MASS MURDER IN SYNAGOGUES?

     @nico @kissane I know. And yet they have a report button and "blanket banning" is possible. So it's not so simple. Also they could alter the software to make it possible to kill usage that is endorsing murder and / or white supremacy. That much limitation isn't crazy to ask for. In a few years, when there have been more attacks on synagogues, on black churches, on Asians and trans people and gays...you're likely to feel a bit different...

     also it wasn't necessarily a twitter clone, per se, as twitter poached functionality from early fediverse software (including hashtags) - if anything, twitter is a proprietary fediverse clone, not the other way around.
