Found this amazing post on reddit about the bricked Ford EV, some gems from the comments:
>Its extremely rare so it isn't really an issue >Cell phones and laptops brick too, so its ok for your CAR to brick itself >This is ford's flagship EV, they'll roll out the white glove treatment for you (LMAO) >They will compensate you with a loaner / $30 lyft gift card >Modern gas cars brick themselves too, this is just EV hate!
@bronze People get chuckles over this but the OTA update signifies something much worse: There's a way to remotely disable it, and stakeholders REALLY hate it when the rich people try to evacuate without their blessing
You're a soyjak collar at the Deloitte office in Baltimore. News of a tsunami has broken and the city is a conflagration of negroid violence, looting, and rape. You, as a "good", climate conscious bugman, have bought a nice EV and intend to leave the city with your preps (keychain pepper spray, a 6-pack of dasani, and every old granola/energy bar you could scrounge up) .
You get into your car and see that the panel has a warning:
Emergency Notice:
In order to save lives and use resources effectively, this vehicle cannot be used to leave until each seating position is occupied by an evacuee. At Ford, we understand this is a stressful and demanding time, but in times of crisis we have to be good humans and do the right thing. Please press "Acknowledged" below, and FordPool services will connect you with 7 more evacuees to use this automobile more effectively.
Current Seats Occupied: 1/8 Awaiting Passengers 3/7: Odomi Unkala (He/Him) (NES) Pumani Kurgulugalala (They/them) Devontrius Deshonneighsseigh Jones (He/Him)
@WashedOutGundamPilot that's the main reason I try my best to keep my old cars alive, yes they're simple but they get me from a to b without the remote killswitch and all the extra BS Also I personally have fun tinkering around with cars, almost as much as I do with computers. Its a nice extra hobby and I'd rather own up to any mistake I make rather than bitch at a mechanic about prices and things not working the way they're supposed to.
@bronze We shake our heads when our relatives talk about selling their "cheap" fun cars as a teen, knowing what GTO's and Cougars go for today. Someday our kids will do the same when we acknowledge selling off a 6-speed civic lx
@WashedOutGundamPilot boomers don't get it, they really think new is always better and to be fair for most of their lives that was true, until it wasn't
@JedKron1248@justnormalkorean newer cars are so computerized that firmware bricking can also happen to them too its part and parcel for technology enthusiasts who like to eat shit at every turn, so long as its new digital computer shit meanwhile my shitbox this morning, funny how the car made in the 90s just fucking works huh i thought old = bad right guys?
>Wait, so you can just post hate speech on the Internet and you'll still be allowed to drive your car around? And it doesn't have a botnet to make sure you're not driving recklessly and haven't exceeded your allotted carbon footprint credits? >... >... >... >REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE >BAN >IT >NOW >BANITNOWBANITNOWBANITNOW :marseysoycry: :marseysoycry: :marseysoycry: :marseysoycry: :marseysoycry:
@WashedOutGundamPilot@bronze thinking about the paint huffers who sold their dieselgate VWs back only to get bought by someone else a year or two later (if it was in good shape) and then kvetching that their new shitbox gets 20mpg.
