     A friend finally dragged me out of high level mastodon (not like I was active to begin with though) and honestly the people here are at least a bit more tolerable than the woke mouthpieces of mastodon

     I always had the impression that the fedi was a dead thing for ages, simply because there wasn't anyone in the shitposter sphere using it for the most part (it came off as another "shit someone shills but never uses" platform like Tox, the earlier days of Matrix, and sometimes XMPP/IRC post Discord), and the people in the lefty sphere never gave two shits about it. Even now the only lefties who use it are ones with enough serious Musk Derangement Syndrome to actually quit using Twitter (most won't).
     
     And then on Mastodon it's not just being a woke mouthpiece it's boring "Hi I do this and that" sterility since if you're genuine you get banned or defedded or lose followers and social media whores crave numbers.

     that and I have very little social connections because the ones I had were friggin awful and I decied to cut em off

     I did the same thing a bunch of times. My Poast account was the closest thing I've come to returning to social life since 2020. The isolation sucks but when the alternative is a bunch of Australian neo-liberals it's an obvious choice to make in hindsight.

     @PhenomX6 @theorytoe @Giganova8 I tried Mastodon/Fedi years and years ago and didn't take to it (it was gay). After that I kept hearing about it and how dumb and gay it was, it really left an 'enemy territory' impression in my mind. I heard about it picking up momentum with Poast and NCD but still thought 'Mastodon/fedi gay' until, eventually, this is my outlet one for shitposting.

     Put it this way, the enemy territory aspect was more "who uses the Mastodon software and branding" IMO.
     
     My parents don't know what the fedi is. They know what Mastodon is and don't use it.

     why I ended up staying longer than 2 weeks is that its actually like not a numbers game like pretty much anything else. Also add in the fact that most people here arent some unbearable reddit-level retard (although it is not void of such)
     
     Also why I used discord a hell of a lot more because it actually felt like there were normal people on there (this was 2016 discord, not the abomination it is today) and there wasnt some numbers game along with it. I just played vidiya with my friends and that was it.
