Zergling_man (zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2023 18:44:19 JST Zergling_man @meso @raccoon @dushman @dcc I've never had audio problems with manjaro (but apparently uninstalling pulse is the fastest way to fix any audio issue on linux), but I have managed to brick it ~5 times. Never bricked artix, never bricked arch. † top dog :pedomustdie: likes this. -
meso (meso@the.asbestos.cafe)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2023 18:44:20 JST meso @Zergling_man @dcc @dushman @raccoon Manjaro was so shit, it was the first non-Debian-based distro I tried and the sound was broken and everything. No such issues with Arch, that never happened there -
Zergling_man (zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2023 18:44:21 JST Zergling_man @raccoon @dcc @dushman Yeah I think the first distro I tried was ubuntu. Put it on a laptop I was using for uni work (lol), started system upgrade on uni wifi then had to sleep it and go catch the bus, and the thing corrupted itself.
I think I installed xubuntu next, then swapped to steamos (mistakes), and at some point I asked the guy who had been poking me to try it for a new recommendation, he said manjaro, and I've been using arch family stuff since. It just fucking werks. -

I won't deny that ubuntu was the first linux distro I found when I was like... 16 maybe? And I did start with that. Man the default UI got so much worse. -

It ships a MySQL user by default for whatever reason and labels all network interfaces as eth# despite what they actually are. It still ships GNU stuff from like 2007 lmao. -

People who know it's not that hard: I use it because it's easy -

Sometimes I'm tempted to try "harder" distros but there's many things I wanna learn and I feel like a new distro wouldn't be as interesting for me compared to the other things, and my free time isn't as much as I'd like so I should have priorities. -

A lot of programs are just not perfect, I've gotten quite used to that and the best option is to just use what sucks in a way you can find acceptable.
Yeah your issues with apt are not wrong or anything but personally it's just not problems that give me issues.
At the moment I'm using artix though and I miss how simple it is to just clean shit with apt, removing orphan and cleaning up with pacman is a bit silly but an alias can solve the issue so, meh. -
Zergling_man (zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faith)'s status on Sunday, 17-Dec-2023 21:28:40 JST Zergling_man @raccoon @dcc @dushman Yeah that's fair enough.
These days my main complaint with that family is just how much ass apt sucks and how much ass the package names suck. "python" still refers to python2!
And then half the time you name the package you want and it doesn't exist because you have to specify the version number too, instead of just doing it the sane way of allowing you to put version conditions on packages. (Except I think apt *does* allow that, so go fucking figure.)
My complaint with apt is that every time you try to use dpkg for anything it recommends using apt for "user-friendly package management" except half the package-related operations I want to perform simply don't exist in apt; like looking for which binaries or systemdicks files a package provides. -

Back when I used ubuntu it worked just fine. I installed it on my dad's computer too and he happily used it for ages until he had to use I don't remember what kinda bullshit that only ran on windows (I failed to make it run under wine). I think I moved to debian next. -

I wouldn't say it's the easiest, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who never used linux before and can barely use a computer.
I tend to direct those to mint.
