     Originally high school used to be for the talented part of the population. Then it became continued day care for everybody. The same is now happening to colleges. You may have seen the recent stats that Harvard and Yale are giving 80+ percent As to students.

     I have stories about people being tutored in college chemistry and biology classes that are heartbreaking.
     
     These people just want to pretend that you can never tell a kid they can't have their dream. If you dream you are going to be a doctor, well we have to let you be a doctor.
     
     There is no possible reason hard courses are hard.

     In 2018, college enrollment rates for those who recently graduated from high school, aged 16 to 24 were 66.9% for men and 71.3% (11.2 million) for women.

     If ~70% (significantly more than half) of high-school graduates go to college, that means a lot of below average people. College shouldn't be continued day care. It should be for the right end of the bell curve.
