It also has a couple of twists in your loadout: you can equip items that will help you hunt monsters, stock your pantry with some spices and have different cookware for different occasions (you can have 3 different equipment in each section equipped at the same time, and you can use all 3 cookware to cook at the same time, you can take the dish from one and put into the other to use the special abilities of them). There are also sauces that allow you to change colors of ingredients.
The judges also give you hints about what flavors they like, and pandering to these preferences net you extra points.
The only thing is that it doesn't really give you any idea of how much you have to do to win, and the progression looks a bit wonky. For my first challenge, I managed to win with 100 points, while if I had done anything less than 240 in my second one, I'd have lost.
I am, however, happy to inform that the game didn't give me an achievement for having pet the dog.

OK, this game is way better than it had any right to be.
It's basically Shokugeki no Soma: you want to join the Battle Chef Brigade, and for that you need to hone you cooking skills and win cooking matches against your fellow contestants.
The gameplay is a simple match 3, with a couple of twists: you pick and choose which ingredients you'll use, and different ingredients have different shapes and matching symbols, so you "make your board" everytime.
You also need to hunt for your ingredients. You have a hunting ground with a decent 2d platformer/beat'em up gameplay. In each challenge, the judges will tell you what's the "theme" of the dish (a creature that must be used as ingredient) and will give hints about what are their favorite flavors.
Then you have 5 minutes to go out, beat the crap out of a bunch of monsters, gather their meat and turn it into a decent dish for the contest.
The game has a "colorful cast of characters" (in the good way, as far as I've seen) in the other contestants and instructors, a neat game loop and a less than stellar voice acting, but still is pretty cool.
