The safest produce to eat is cooked; the next safest is washed. Wash fruits and vegetables under running water—even if you do not plan to eat the peel.
yea just wash them under water -
meso (meso@asbestos.cafe)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 04:57:46 JST meso @waifu @vriska >The bacterium appears in anywhere from 2 percent to one quarter of soil samples, says Schaffner. Like dung beetles, C. tetani thrives on fecal matter. Unvaccinated, one could get tetanus by cutting oneself in one's kitchen, from bacteria that came in on the vegetables, or that blew in on dust, Schaffner said. -
wafu (waifu@waifuism.life)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 04:57:47 JST wafu @meso @vriska that may be true in the united States but I'm not so sure of it if it's LATAM chief -
meso (meso@asbestos.cafe)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 04:57:47 JST meso @waifu @vriska nah king washing it with cold water is enough to remove the dirt and maybe some bacteria but the bacteria are almost never harmful.
only thing to be worried about is maybe tetanus? if you're not vaccinated against it. but just get vaxxed it's a mandatory childhood vaccine iirc
and rare e. coli outbreaks but that's about it. i don't think vinegar would really help in these situations either. I've never heard of people washing them with vinegar and DEFINITELY DO NOT WASH THEM WITH BLEACH PLEASE DO NOT KILL YOURSELF -
wafu (waifu@waifuism.life)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 04:57:49 JST wafu @vriska mom always told me you have to wash them carefully with vinegar and cold water, else the bacteria still live in your vegetables since you're eating them raw -
meso (meso@asbestos.cafe)'s status on Monday, 23-Jan-2023 04:57:49 JST meso @waifu @vriska this is untrue. just rinse with water. there's concern of the deadly e. coli strain but it's exceptionally rare and only affects kids and the elderly. it's also occasionally in the news because outbreaks like that get the food safety agencies instantly on the lettuce sellers' asses and do recalls -

In case you're unfamilliar with what I'm talking about, basically if you touch a piece of raw chicken and then touch anything else you're 100% guaranteed to get salmonela
