feldNow that we have the videos of Israeli officials detailing their plan to empower Hamas and squash the PLO because [paraphrased] "nobody on the world stage will accept Hamas" and the PLO was being a nuisance by gaining support for their push to become an independent state I think we can put the pin in this one
Everything here was carefully planned to give them justification for what we're seeing. If we're lucky we'll even get confirmation that the attack (which they were warned about) was allowed (why else were all those soldiers moved before it happened?) because they thought they'd get near universal support from Israeli citizens and the world.
Wild stuff. Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
"We know that Egypt has warned the Israelis three days prior that an event like this could happen," Mr McCaul told reporters following a closed-door intelligence briefing on Wednesday for lawmakers about the Middle East crisis, according to AFP news agency.
“It is my assumption - though I’m not on the inside - that there would be data breaking through that could have been interpreted differently and certainly would be with hindsight,” he said.
@feld It was Simhat Tora on a Saturday, usually soldiers get a small break on holiday seasons to be with family. Guards are generally halved because of this.
