>Ishikawa: In development, we discuss all sorts of detailed elements, but we also talk about the first things that the players are gonna notice and we focus our resources there, so I’m really happy when people appreciate that and we create good art as a result.
@coolboymew@ChristiJunior like I heard from someone on Telegram, some guy tried to get a job there as a programmer and they offered him fucking $15 an hour to work there (he was working at a defense contractor before this) and he was escorted out by security after blowing up at how much of a joke $15 an hour was.
If you're only going to pay skilled programmers $15 an hour (which even pre-scamdemic was getting to be low), you're only going to be able to get third worlders who can "live like kings" from that wage.
@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior This shit pisses me off, because they end up paying pajeets, so overseas, with terrible wages and the quality is down forever
Just checked Stupidpol today and you have another brainlet Bank arguing for infinite migration to keep wages down from and it's like, are you trying to make everywhere India? I don't think I need to explain what I mean by that, but ever got customer service from india? It's poor quality, the people working there probably has 0 ability to climb the corporate ladder in any ways and they're probably paid peanuts leading to just plain a depressed population, they're probably working for like 3 corps at the same time, the quality is N E V E R go up
The quality is N E V E R fucking going up, just down
Where the fuck will they ever get quality workers if everywhere becomes India?
"Boeing has also expanded a design center in Moscow. At a meeting with a chief 787 engineer in 2008, one staffer complained about sending drawings back to a team in Russia 18 times before they understood that the smoke detectors needed to be connected to the electrical system, said Cynthia Cole, a former Boeing engineer who headed the engineers’ union from 2006 to 2010."
@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior The besthesda hired indian company probably was paid well enough, the amazon indian chat centers and Adobe's entire customer facing staff? I actually doubt it
@coolboymew@ChristiJunior The other reason they can do this outsourcing thing (different from H1Bs and the like) is to cut costs.
To you, it's a unsustainable wage. To someone in India, Russia, or Mexico, it's a live like a king wage. This sounds crazy; but here's the thing. You can either take a dead end job at a gas station where the minimum wage is PER MONTH or something crazy, or you can take a job as a programmer at a company that is overworking you but you get plenty of money for you and your leeching parents/extended family who wants some of that too. image.png image.png image.png
@ChristiJunior@coolboymew This is also why people in third world countries will wagecuck it for a western corpo. They get to pay people in a third world country $9 an hour.
@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior@coolboymew Real problem is that it's tough to get anything new/original into the market when you're paying people to do the same ol'thing
What you need is gangs of nuts trying new things, some outside a co on their own, some inside a company... depending on their personalities, etc. That's how it works
If you hire folks to do "same as everyone else" work then you get sumthin like an old employer of mine, Disney, who never really does anything uniquely fun / original
@coolboymew@ChristiJunior I wouldn't be shocked if the scam call centers pay more or something, given all the ones in those busts "live like kings".
Hustle culture is strong there, along with the mindset of seeing the first world as a bunch of stupid people with money. If you watch enough scambait videos you'll notice that theme, many of them don't even hide how they view people in the USA. That old stupid lady is their personal piggybank.
@ChristiJunior ah yes, the ancient art of optimization, lost on many a game developer who only know 8K ULTRA HD UNCOMPRESSED TEXTURES and spaghetti code :verywise:
It's not about learning the theory of why you do something. It's about learning how to do it and make the money. It's learning about how to be conformist as shit for whatever your wagie boss wants, so you're spending millions of dollars buying up talent from Full Sail and CalArts to animate The Emoji Movie or whatever crap they churn out.
@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior@coolboymew Nahhh the college crowd is a mixed bag.... lots of creative people on campus some graduate some don't but it's actually a great place to mix things up if you're creative.
The unusual upper division classes really get things going too... lots of crazy ppl show up in those it's great.
@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior@coolboymew You're not wrong. Upwork and the like murdered the market once it opened up internationally. Jobs you used to be able to do for ~$2000 are currently ~$50 thanks to 3rd world corporations. Some people will still pay a premium for quality work but it's few and far between.
This should concern everyone, because everyone who is paid a wage or salary has their income based on what the minimum wages are. If the day laborer's wage increases, everyone else will push for a wage increase.
And those whose wealth is not based on either wages or salary fight that because every penny paid to a worker is one they can't stick in their own pocket.
@ChristiJunior@mischievoustomato@coolboymew Counterpoint, it's something players will see all game and something they'll be watching anytime nothing interesting is happening on screen. Of course you'd want to devote all your resources there. Maybe it's a bit over the top, but Yoko Taro needs those zip files full of 2B ass tomorrow and thats how he gets it.
@coolboymew@Pawlicker@ChristiJunior Have you ever seen the actual living conditions of India? Not to mention they have a caste system, the aren't going to spend a single dime more on a peasant that isn't worth it. It's a despicable place with equally as unpleasant people :alexjonesconfuse:
@McMongoose@coolboymew@ChristiJunior a lot of people living in these countries either want to escape it or will want to be rich instead so they can escape it at some point or at least have a higher standard of living if their crabs in a bucket extended family doesn't pressure them into giving them money
