To take someone who was made to be the best support and force into a high stress leadership position, to plot the course (both metaphorically and literally) on their own without the physical and emotional guidance they long for, will lead to ruin. That's how you end up with the USS Fitzgerald female watch officer breaking down in tears inconsolable after the ship collides with another, leaving everyone around her to save the ship from sinking crying aloud bemoaning her fate and her future career. In contrast you have en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Ann_Brown_Patten who did what she did for the sake of her husband.
