“huh, cool, got some slap to it”
pull trigger for another 5 dollars
“shit this thing’s uncomfortable to shoot”
pull trigger, now 15 dollars spend in the span of 30 seconds
“huh cool gun dude nice anyways I’m gonna go shoot my AR some more”

I think he was expecting a higher standard of accuracy from a gov-spec gun at that pricepoint, missing the fact that the gov doesn’t really care all that much if the thing is a 1/4” gun

chud (chud@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:14:32 JST chud How do you like the SR-25? I love my SR-15 but can't decide if it's worth upgrading my AR-10 to a Knights. Any issues so far? -

It’s more the support when nobody’s looking that ends up being bad.
I can’t remember which one but I know someone w/ one of the ritzy brands, they refused to work on his new gun because they said it worked fine w/ 77 grain premium stuff and that’s all that mattered. $3k gun choked on literally everything but the most expensive ammo, took 2 trips to the manufacturer until they found out the gas port wasn’t opened up to the right gauge.
Seems like all the high dollar stuff has just as many headaches as the home builts once you crest that $2k mark, all my wealthy boomershooter buds are mired in some hassle or another.

Royper (royper@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:33:16 JST Royper @chud @Monsignor_DickFace @WashedOutGundamPilot Their warranty support is insane. At least it was I don’t know if it still is. Back in the day I was posting about it on some forum and a rep for Kac saw my post. He said oh I know what batch that’s from we didn’t have enough SR 25 ejection port covers so we just cut up and welded together some SR 15 covers and that’s what’s on yours. I check mine and sure enough there’s a little weld line. Later he DM‘s me and asked me if I want a one piece door and then he just ships it to me for free. -
Royper (royper@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:33:17 JST Royper @WashedOutGundamPilot @chud @Monsignor_DickFace Well it was never marketed as a 1/4 moa gun. The best claim KAC makes is 1/2 moa. I can get close to that with really nice three dollar ammo but most the time I’m shooting cheap shit out of it. Which it cycles happily but no I don’t get half moa groups with Hungarian surplus. -
chud (chud@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:33:17 JST chud I think the government likes KAC because the company bends over backwards with warranty support for government contracts, otherwise LMT or LWRC or someone would probably have a bigger stake -
Royper (royper@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:41:38 JST Royper @WashedOutGundamPilot @chud @Monsignor_DickFace I would say I have the opposite experience. My cobbled together clone builds are mostly semi functional whereas my kacs have never had an issue. -
Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 01:41:38 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @Royper @chud @Monsignor_DickFace I’ve had preternatural luck w/ my builds. One time I slapped something together out of parts we had laying around at the range, didn’t final fit anything at all, and my buddy took it out to the line and used it as a loaner for student guns. They put at least 1,000 rds through it and ended up running it for a while.
I think a lot of it comes down to ammo though, always seemed to be the denominator for a bunch of different guns

Desert_0asis (desert_0asis@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 04-Nov-2023 04:26:05 JST Desert_0asis @WashedOutGundamPilot @Royper @chud @Monsignor_DickFace A cheap $500 AR is fine (well when cheap ones were $500) this discussion reminds me of a bet I made with a friend. My friend is an Afghan vet. Doesn't like AR's because he had to fix them all the time over there. Problems all over the place. Anyways he bet that my cheap ass AR wouldn't run if we dried out all the oil. "Wouldn't even make it through the first mag" he said. So we popped it open. Sprayed it down with brake cleaner and wiped it down.
I went through 5 loaded mags before I said no more, no issue. I've personally never had issues feeding factory ammo through mine. But I have had feeding issues when I try out retard loads "30gn projectile and 28gn of powder? Why the fuck not"
Makes me wonder how absolutely shitted issued small arms are in the army. I expected them to be worn out. But not with the issues he was describing regarding feeding and sand ingress.
So at this point I should stamp "better than your race gun" on the side. LolWoggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.
