that common behavior is not adequate, I would prefer if all software just not downmix my stereo to mono without my consent.

????????? i didn't install anything extra to ""simulate"" common behavior, it's a feature of OS, plus it makes more sense to have separate devices for each separate input instead of bundling them together into thing they aren't even meant to do in the first place (bundling separate mono input into stereo/quad/etc inputs)

Proper behavior would be transmitting stereo signal as is.
