Saw this movie for the first time a while back and was amazed people think this whole “dying for a disinterested coalburner” movie was so beloved around these parts
dude wasted his life for nothin

@Groomschild @EdBoatConnoisseur But it is. The guy kills himself so he can let the single mother and her meximutt son get away.
She’s not even into him, she’s just the usual “yeah, sure, whatever, if you’re into me that’s fine, I got nothin’ better to do” type of girl. But he dies to protect her lineage.
All those gosling posts made it sound kinda cool and based, instead it was just like….a millennial version of gran torino
@WashedOutGundamPilot >’murica movie where man dies for a coalburner
do you have an idea how little that narrows it down?
@Hoss We finally decided to try it after all the references, and the chase scene was cool. It basically ends there.
@WashedOutGundamPilot @Groomschild @EdBoatConnoisseur I’m not proud of Ryan Gosling being literally me. But he is literally me.
@nierenstein @Groomschild @EdBoatConnoisseur Every guy daydreams about dying for a cause, that’s not too new.
It’s just a let down to find out that the banner movie everyone talks about is yet MORE sacrificial white man propaganda
@nierenstein @Leaflord @EdBoatConnoisseur @Groomschild just had an older married guy telling me how to set up a goon cave, which was a weird experience. Said to “buy a big house w/ at least 2 stories so you can hear when she’s coming upstairs”
