Apparently some stuff it does faster than MacOS while other stuff it does slower.
No GPU support yet but apparently the team is writing their own driver (in rust) for it. It's still an alpha release but it's come a long way and they're making progress really fast.
@PhenomX6@Moon yee but not nearly as nice of a screen, keyboard, speakers, (feel of) build quality, and especially battery life.
I'd love an ARM laptop with similar specs to apple with SODIMM/CAMM memory, good trackpad, good speakers, good screen, decent mics, decent webcam, 3 m.2 slots, Wi-Fi/BT using m.2, etc. (Basically a Dell XPS with an ARM CPU instead of x86), with an open bootloader. Plus a commitment to support Linux would be a plus.
I'd happily pay around $1,200 for it.
I'd also take RISC-V but (at least for now) the performance isn't there yet...
@sjw@Moon also the reason you'll never see an arm laptop like that is nobody is building them and the target demographic for laptops now is people who want to flex on Twitter and their job like the American psycho card scene.
See: modern ThinkPads, like this one owned by a Google employee.
@CumskinFoidPuncher69420@sjw@Moon I slapped a bunch of crazy stickers on a laptop that was beat to shit as a joke to fuck with people. I need some more for that laptop.
The only time I do any computing in public other than doomscrolling my phone it will have to be tails OS on a 10 year-old hardened shitbox off of mcdonald's wi-fi and I have just have to pretend not to be a computer person
@galena@sjw@Moon the fandom is now a shitty lifestyle brand without the company but instead Twitter and Google and TikTok marketing it to nerds who have no personality and no interest in talking animals.
