     @TheMadPirate @Edge @ChristiJunior I played Metal Gear Solid for the first time a year or so ago and found in it a level of kino that reminded me of Super Metroid. My respects for that crazy Chink Kojima and his team. I had below-zero expectations when I started but ended up so impressed it made me want to play the original Metal Gear on MSX.
     
     However, a lot in that generation is basically Atari 2600 with voxels. :pepe_vomit:

     @TheMadPirate @ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Edge no, you're thinking about Majora's Mask. That one is a pretty good game, but it's very "weird" for TLoZ standards, so some people love it and some people find it "meh".
     Ocarina of Time was the first N64 one, and it's a classic Zelda adventure that set the foundation of the 3D Zelda games and open world. It's pretty kino, if you aren't a graphics faggot.

     To be honest, I'm not that into racing games, so I don't know the details and current landscape, but it's my understanding that Gran Turismo in the PSX started (or at least turned popular) the "simulation racing" genre, as opposed to the more arcade style racing games we used to have, like Need for Speed.
     IDK if nowadays it's still the "gold standard", tho, I'm pretty sure there must be new games in the genre that are made by autistic people and are better.

     @Rasterman @ChristiJunior @TheMadPirate @Edge yeah, that's something that, as someone who lived during that era, I always noticed.
     The thing is that 2D graphics were pretty much perfected during the 16 bit era, if you try to play any Sonic game for the Genesis, or a Megaman game for the SNES, nowadays, you won't want to gouge your eyes out.
     So during the 32/64 bit era, they had way more room inside the Playstation CDs than they ever had in a SNES cartridge, and it allowed them to make some gorgeous games, like SotN, Street Fighter Alpha, Megaman 8, etc.
     
     Nintendo didn't have it because they insisted in using cartridges in the N64 because they didn't like the load times (and also because Nintendo wanted to make it harder to pirate their games, as something like a CD was way easier to reproduce than a cartridge), and their processor and kit was better optimized for 3d than 2d. So, they didn't have gorgeous 2D games, and even their 3D games suffered in the graphics department because the cartridges didn't have the storage room for textures that the Playstation CDs had.
     
     But the 3D games of that era shouldn't be dismissed, and if you aren't a graphics nigger there are some pretty kino games. As I mentioned, TLoZ Ocarina of Time is a pretty good game that set the foundation of 3D Zelda games and 3D open worlds in general. Mario 64 is a masterpiece in 3D movement that still feels good to play. And games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Gran Turismo are classics that spawned whole game genres.

     I COOMED when I saw it for the first time. :coomer_cooming: I thought the future was bright. Then the series stopped and next thing we got were two 8-bit games and a mediocre modern one.
     
     I'm not beyond playing a game with ugly graphics; but I'm not gonna look at it and say it looks good like saying a tranny is a woman. On recent years I played MGS, it was kino. Also SM64, it was pain. Objectively, I'll say Mario Bros for the NES looks better than Super Mario 64. Yes, Mario Bros, not even Super Mario Bros. :pepedisappoint:
     
     Was looking into buying GT7 (never played any). Metacritic gave it 8+ score... then I read the user reviews and they all said it was shit. I take it it started on PSX?

     See Symphony of the Night. That has aged gracefully and it leveraged the new technology without jumping into the 3D craze.
     
     But even terrible PS1/N64-era graphics have fans. See those Puppet Combo horror games.

     And Asphalt 8 is a fucking free mobile game that I installed on a whim to pass the time during trips.
