     I may be old fashioned but I think computers, which are things you get work done on, should be a box that sits under or on a desk somewhere, and has a bunch of monitors and input devices plugged into it. it shouldn't move.

     especially DPI problems. sure, all three of my monitor are 1920x1200, but two are 24" monitors, and one is like 15"

     @cstross Sadly I'm a retrocomputerist, so the old days never ended, not for me.

     In fact, one of the things I'm doing this weekend is moving a couple Osborne 1's out of my storage unit, along with a few early Compaq Portables.

     @foone The good ones are expensive, but so are plenty of the bad ones (and none of the cheap ones are good).

     On the other hand, consider yourself blessed that you're too young to have had to lug around a circa-1985 luggable the size and weight of a sewing machine!

     @jackwilliambell @cstross I can't locate the pictures right now, but I actually disassembled one of those a couple years ago, in an attempt to diagnose why it was dead. No luck, but I did manage to dump the console font

     I owned a Corona back in the mid '80s.

     I loved that machine and even invested in updating it. I remember trying to talk my then wife into letting me buy a 20MB Seagate drive for it by waving a floppy around and claiming, "It holds *60* of these!"

     But a few years later I updated to an 80286 like everyone else.

     My vision is WAY too crap to even consider using something like that.

     I once had the XPS13 with WQUXGA (3840x2400 on 13.4") and two external 24" 1920x1080 pixels each.

     There is a reason (to be honest, at least two, battery lifetime was another) the next one got reduced to 1920x1200. Fucked up DPI scaling everywhere.
