Infertility has always been grounds for divorce. It goes back at least to the Romans, and it was widely practiced during the middle ages. Just look at King Henry VIII. You're saying it's out of her control. Fine, but so is being born retarded. Doesn't he have the right to choose not to marry someone who is mentally retarded?-

But it's still something that you don't know if you can fix until you try. There's different issues, some more solvable than others. It could even be a genetic incompatibility, where with someone else they'd have better success.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

>Cutting her off for infertility at this point would be like cutting her off for having the wrong skin colour - it's not some unexpected surprise, he knew she didn't have what he wanted and strung her along for a couple of years.
But he didn't know when they first got involved, because he couldn't know. So it is an unexpected surprise, because they have to at least try first to know, and they have to be willing to have a kid together to at least try. Which makes it just as much not his fault as hers. -

He's said multiple times he's known from very early on. -

I'm going to choose to hold @WashedOutGundamPilot to a higher moral standard than those guys and reject any wholesomeposting he wants to erect on that indian graveyard if he goes down that route.
Cutting her off for infertility at this point would be like cutting her off for having the wrong skin colour - it's not some unexpected surprise, he knew she didn't have what he wanted and strung her along for a couple of years. All those laughs they shared together about women making poor decisions in men are going to be re-contextualized when he's had enough of his little fun and she realizes she picked the wrong man to devote herself to too.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

Prior to that she acted like she was on birth control. Early enough that I could have directed things, but it was fit for purpose at the time. I thought I’d be moving in a few months and that would be that. Then lockdowns started and bungled all my plans.

It seems obvious in the abstract when you hear “never date someone you wouldn’t marry“ but I fell into it, one step at a time.
I didn’t take it seriously, I thought she was dumb for dating an older guy and it would fizzle out when she’d find her own footing by living alone for a bit. For the first months, I think as late as 8 or so in we still weren’t totally, openly ‘dating’ because I was trying to keep up some kind of partition in the hopes of making that expected breakup go down easier. It wasn’t super serious, but it’s the game we’d play to remind ourselves that things had an expiration date attached.
Then the industry got upended, and I ended up w/ an unexpected job that let me keep roots here far longer than planned. Just the way life goes, I guess. Many have gotten ensnared by their own “aw she’s an FWB type o’ thing” or “eh, she’s into me so I figured WTH, might as well roll with it” situations before. I went in gambling from the start, gotta pay the tab.

Yeah, so you didn't know and she mislead you. I'm not trying to cause a rift, if you can fix it you should. But it's on her as much as you.
