     @PurpCat @iska @jeff @MMS21 Minecraft still has user-made anticheats on most public servers, though M$ is trying to enforce its own authority on them. At this point I think the game would better be off if they kilted Java version entirely, leaving its support to the community, and grabbed cash from zoomers via Bedrock only instead.

     This could happen with any game so the fault doesn’t lie with the community. Notice how this shit came around once matchmaking servers came around? I wonder how quake server admins dealt with this 20 years ago hmm…

     @MMS21 @iska @jeff it's literally the devs for not letting people host servers, write their own anticheats (some games had this back in the day), etc.

     @PurpCat@clubcyberia.co 99% of companies can't actually make anticheats, anything above anomaly detection and obfuscation is out of reach for them.
     
     Ironically the best anticheat goes torunescape that had to detect user behaviour since they've allowed full custom clients until 2018.
     There's still a few bots in rs3 but 99% of them are sitting semi-afk pressing a button every once in a while, not even doing mouse movements, and there's still few enough of them that doing these things yourself remains profitable.
