This is something that I have wondered for some time, and I am not sure how to answer it.
Jesus says - and this is unambiguous - that we should turn the other cheek, and to pray for those who harm us. I can see the reasoning behind this: if you extend kindness and patience to those who sin without understanding that they sin, then you may work to save them. Those who sin in the same fashion that a child or animal sins can be taught better.
This is obviously right.
Yet on the other hand, if you extend kindness and patience to a true and knowing agent of evil - such as a jew - then you have clearly served evil, as the knowing agent of evil will not ever cease his evil.
This, also, is obviously right.
Where do we draw the line, and how do we know which is which? It is clear to me that the line should be drawn after "petty thieves," and before "jews," but all the cases between these I am not sure of.
- Machismo repeated this.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating When it's unintentional sin. But you better have bought that sword. When the Christ returns, he's coming with one too. Violence in the service of God, such as protecting His congregation, is acceptable. Just be sure it's for God's reasons and not yours. And do not let your pride convince you that your violence is righteous. Meditate on it. If there is any doubt, then you are not in service to God, but your own passions.
At least I think so. I'm not perfect. I'm just another sinner trying to understand my Master's will.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating 2 John 1:9-11 ESV
Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. [10] If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, [11] for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating I would really like to read the Old Christian teaching on this. This new "roll over and play dead" version of Christianity is homosexual

@idea_enjoyer "Turn the other cheek" is even in Marcion's text. I have not found a Gnostic text contradicting this teaching.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating Turn the other cheek doesn't just mean submit to evil though
Proverbs 25:26 ESV
Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
Jesus only went to the cross because there was a better purpose for His suffering, not because He was cornered

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating I mean, Christians gotta figure this out or we're just going to die like a bunch of friendless libertarians

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating Do not seek revenge, effectively. Don't go around saying any slight against you is evil. There is evil, and we should prohibit it; hating the sin but loving the sinner, but where you're personally affected it's better to stay out of it and let someone else, with a clearer head, act on your behalf.
The real question is at what point do we have to make the call that killing someone is justified? At what point can we say "this man will never repent"?
