    There's fucking PILES of textbooks worth of information that I *still* haven't read. Every "Pure Mathematician" type has a tendency to skip over somewhat elementary statistics - which is supposed to be bread and butter for an industry mathematician. I'm lucky that I took piles of Engineering courses in undergrad, or I'd be just completely sunk.

      @theorytoe Oh yeah, the pure math people who come in with zero experience are almost always fucked. I knew a guy who made the Applied Math transition his last year of grad school, and it took him like a year and a half to find even an entry level coding job.

      It's the recruiters doing it without a doubt. Your field may be specialized enough that they have to send pretty much every resume through.
