   Aligning Spritely with the Guile, Scheme, Guix communities seems like it's turned out to be a very good idea for us. Productivity is really high over here and the set of tools are really good.

   The next release of guile-goblins is gonna be a *MASSIVE* step up in usability too. Should be out soon. Get hyped.

     My understanding was that Ocaps on the network level may use any ol' language, but Ocaps on the software level needs either lexical scope or extreme attention to the implementation details of a language's VM (or writing a VM oneself using a systems language). Using Scheme gets @cwebber out of a lot of meetings and probably shaved a decade off development while still doing Ocaps all the way down. Correct me if I'm wrong 🤓😎

     @cwebber Even though I couldn't be more happy about this decision I'm wondering why you didn't choose a mainstream language considering that the adoption of Goblins could potentially be much higher if so.

     @50htz @aconchillo @cwebber open() is a no-no: it forges an IO capability from a string, which is much like forging a pointer by casting an int in memory-unsafe languages like C. Only openat() (that takes a capability/reference as an arg) can be a global. All globals have to be immutable data (where code counts as data). This applies to importable globals too.

     @50htz @aconchillo @cwebber strict encapsulation, memory safety, and powerless globals make an ocap system.

     Lexical scoping is a nice way to get encapsulation.

     As to VM... Memory safety is the only big constraint.

     Powerful globals in the standard library is where things usually go wrong.
