   Hey website owners, like @itsfoss, please stop doing this shit. I’m willing to bet not a single person has ever thought “you know what, imma disable my ad blocker because this really fucking annoying popup has made me see the light - I need to turn that shit off and embrace the modern web with all it’s intrusive popups, tracking et al.”

   Nope. Folk will either leave, like I did, or turn on reader mode. 😂

   Please stop making the internet even more shitty.

     @kev interesting! Don't remember putting any such thing.

     It seems our ad service provider, Freestar, has done it to 'recover adblocker revenue' without our explicit consent.

     I will ask them to disable it.

     @NanoSector @kev We have tried non-tracking carbon ads. We even tried an ethical, minimal, non-tracking ads with possible membership option on our other website. Linux Handbook. It did not work. For 2 years, it could not break even. So, we went back to regular ad revenue model. Which works for us as it helps focus on writing content.

     @kev There's one website where I do turn off my adblocker - Tweakers.net, because they serve ads without tracking me.

     This works because their target userbase has similar interests, so the ads do not even feel 'off' to people like me, and I am even inclined to sometimes click on them.
     That, and the ads do not take over your whole screen and just embed nicely into the page.

     I bet this would work with sites like itsfoss as well

     @kev @itsfoss Not to mention all of the 503 errors I get on over half of their articles! I mean, this has been happening for over a YEAR; come on!

     @cameronbosch @kev you mean 520? That's cloudflare ... all the investigation led nowhere and only workaround is to switch browsers between Chrome and Firefox.
