   The entire short barreled rifle laws are a relic of a past when our main criminal element was Mafioso types. Criminal types these days don't use SBRs any more, and if they do (eg Draco) they don't need a stock or brace because they don't know how to aim.

     School shooters did for a while because they were emulating Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who literally got their idea from watching movies such as Natural Born Killers over and over and cared a lot about the aesthetics.
