Chinese pod apartments soon coming to your country!
-
@meso @theorytoe Also it's funny you bring up the Chinese government here, one of the solutions they have for housing demand in Hong Kong is just deporting elderly ppl to the mainland lmao
-
@allison @theorytoe even the chinese government isnt devilish enough to do this, they have no reason to. china even has too MUCH housing, ghost towns of apartment blocks. Hong Kong is a capitalist economy and like really overpopulated
-
@meso @theorytoe Hong Kong is amazingly well managed considering its size and population, same with Singapore and the urban parts of Japan and Taiwan
-
@theorytoe @meso If I were you, I wouldn't drag the Chinese into this. Portland has been insane on both ends for quite a while now and it's only a question of how many slumlord tier things you can do as a landlord before your tenants notice. Pics more or less related.
-
@meso so youre saying you would want to live in one of these?
-
@theorytoe >Chinese pod apartments
meds

@meso @theorytoe @allison China has placed a law on developers that 70% of their new development has to be apartments under 90 square meters. That's small but not insanely small, basically they're making developers not just develop luxury apartments for the super-rich in Beijing.
-
@allison @theorytoe yeah, considering it's been just a single isolated island. not really many other options other than migrating to the mainland which was not possible up until relatively recently, and which may not be very desirable.
American and Western non-island cities do not have this problem, and still want to do cramped housing bullshit

@Moon @theorytoe @allison @meso luxury apartments don't make more profit than 'normal' apartments, in general
