Roe vs. Wade was, as originally decided by the Supreme Court, one of the most unconstitutional rulings in the history of the US Government, which is saying a lot. Using it as a baseline by which to gauge other laws and norms is not useful.
Within the original context of the Founding Fathers, the Bill of Rights was most definitely designed to specifically restrict the Federal Government with regard to State Rights.

Have to disagree: Constitutional rights override state law. Rowe vs. Wade was a similar example to 2A: a constitutional right over-rode state laws with bans, but the court put some legal grey area into the description of that right so some states ended up far more permissive than others. States can abuse or exploit grey areas of legal thinking about what a constitutional right means, but they cannot override the right itself, hence Gavin Newsome's push for a 28th amendment

Most folks, even the NRA, get this wrong. People think the 2nd Amendment prevents states from passing gun regulation laws . . . which is completely wrong. Even though I support people owning guns, the reality is the Bill of Rights was written to restrict the Federal Gov't. Not the states.
