"I will never get a good job in programming without credentials"
I don't know any other profession except this one (and plumbing) where tons of people do that
-
@Moon Yeah, IT in general, if you're lucky, you can get away with pure experience. A bunch of places will be dicks if you don't have certs or schooling however, but if you go to a place where it's IT that will actually interview and hire, a lot of people knows that overly certified people are usually completely useless
-
@coolboymew @Moon Still mad about getting cucked out of the public sector IT job I could walk to because of college shit.
-
@idiot @Moon oh?
-
@coolboymew @Moon That's what I did and I got employed by some very prestigious companies. The fields that will insist on diplomas are gonna be government and academia. Outside of that, if you're flexible with what you're willing to learn and work on and have good soft skills, it'll work out well.

@coolboymew @Moon The guy who interviewed me loved me but I had to apply for a civil service exam that I was hard denied for without a bachelor's in CS. Would worked for the town and the office is literally around the block from my house.
-
@coolboymew @Moon God said "fuck that you're going to learn suffering at the hands of the manufacturing sector before you get to have a nice job." Thanks mister God.
-
@idiot @Moon that's usually how it goes, you work a bunch of sucky jobs before a nice one. Same happened to me
-
@guizzy @Moon @coolboymew You can also found startups without any credentials. I own and run a company that makes guns. I'm not a gunsmith with an SDI diploma, and not even a mechanical engineer. And nobody gives a flip, they just pay me money for the product.
