(Domain¹ can now deploy any Small Web app written in Kitten² when you give it its git URL.)
There’s still a lot I have to build, including automatic updates of deployed Small Web places. But we’re getting there one baby step at a time :)

@colin_brosseau Check out this video I recorded a little while back about it: https://ar.al/2023/02/20/end-to-end-encrypted-kitten-chat/ or see this post: https://ar.al/2020/08/07/what-is-the-small-web/

Details?
The Small Web is the personal web. It’s the peer-to-peer web.
There’s no concept of ‘users’ on the Small Web. You own and control your own place on it. With your place, you can be public should you so desire and follow each other’s activity but you can also be private – actually private, i.e., communicate via end-to-end encrypted messages.
It’s very early days and it’s not ready for use yet but you can find out more and follow along:

@EvanHahn Thanks, Evan, really appreciate that. Maybe I can ask you to have a little look through it later, once things have progressed a bit.
(The Small Web is hopefully going to be a huge step up from what we have right now, which is entrusting your privacy either to a Musk or a Zuckerberg or to a mini-Musk or a mini-Zuckerberg here on the fediverse. But the idea is not to have something to replace Signal. And, again, it’s not ready for use yet.) :)
@aral I used to work for Signal. If I can answer questions about encrypted messaging, let me know. I'm not an expert, but I learned some things while I worked there. (Hiding conversation metadata turns out to be a tricky problem!)
@aral Sounds good! Feel free to reach out here, or email me@evanhahn.com any time.
@aral@mastodon.ar.al Which tecnology have you used?
@zleap The apps are, yes. The server will pull for changes at regular intervals and update the apps automatically if they’re compatible with the version of Kitten installed. And Kitten, similarly, will update automatically (unless the current app version doesn’t support it). So the goal is the severs will be fire and forget.
@aral
So so it is hosted with a git repository, makes sense.
