     @Tactical Plumbers are desperately needed. Electricians also get zapped. Plumbers will always have work anywhere they want.

     @Boomerman @Tactical I'm always surprised how much of the trade is wrapped up in merely being familiar with the necessary off the shelf components and how they fit together. I expected it to be more like being a machinist. Instead, most of the time it's just knowing what to order, knowing how to put it together right, and standing your ground when cheapskates try to get you to cut corners to save s dollar or two, because that shitty job becomes your reputation

     Yeah, originally I was going to a pre-apprenticeship for being an electrician, but I heard there was a MASSIVE lack of plumber pre-apprentices, so I went through that instead. Glad I did. No idea how big the need for plumbing apprentices is, but if I call a place, I basically get guaranteed an interview if their private.
     
     Just waiting to go Union at this point though, and I feel nervous as shit lmfao

     Really happy I went with plumbing. Love the field immensely, even if programmer would be easier on the back, and I probably wouldn't get as much shit for being one of those "city boys" lmao

     @Tactical Neither do they. Just listen and learn when you have a chance and work. You can only learn by doing it. The trades are very sink or swim. Its hard to give advice other than embrace the suck and dont be an ass

     I have a collection of gore pictures from braggarts I've worked with. Not actual gore, just construction gore
     
     But yeah, sucks ass when your going into an industry and all you have for reference material is +50 year old boomers. Have no idea what the hell I'm doing

     @idea_enjoyer @Boomerman @Tactical Funny that this mirrors one of the guys managing the production line at one of the light aircraft companies. Says a whole lot of his work entails taking the ordered drawing changes from the high-level engineering staff and finding an OTS part that can do the job for 1/100th the price to doing it in house.

     I've heard from someone that plumber rates are going to skyrocket in the next 5-10 years as boomers leave the industry, and it might just outscale programmers and other White-collar work, which I'm banking on

     @Tactical @Boomerman I’ve been hearing about a “pilot shortage” looming all my life, until the last 3 years it’s been total fantasy. ONly w/ boomers dying/retiring is any of it starting to come true.
