   The CPC represents an existential threat to this country. I don't say this lightly. They are about as Canadian as Ron DeSantis. They are not just Republicans, they are the worst wing of the Republicans, in line with people like Marjorie Taylor-Greene.

   - Their mailings dehumanize their political rivals.
   - Their followers hound the PM, shout 'pedo groomer' and frequently use violent imagery

     @EvilSandmich The democratic system is supposed to be adversarial, that's a built-in requirement, but there should be respect. Dehumanization is a marker for authoritarian thinking. It's instilling in people the idea that only we are right, only we can be trusted, everybody else is a liar. That's what made the Republicans as terrible as they have become. It ends constructive dialog, polarizes and turns politics toxic.

     Yes, and?
     This is not new. Being concerned about one's people is perfectly natural, *everyone does it*, everyone but a subset of White people.

     Will my people benefit? I will allow that there is a case-by-case basis there, but the people should decide, not their foreign overlords who hate them.
     
     And there's *always* and aristocracy, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but that doesn't mean I have to let infinite Somalis into my town and sign the livelihood that my family depends on over to them.

     @EvilSandmich Can I circle back to my post? During our thread I'm not trying to change your mind, you're certainly not changing mine. But I've read your ideas and tried to understand your viewpoint. This appears to have gone both ways. Our disagreement doesn't turn you into a monster to me - I don't want you hurt or punished. This is what politics looks like; not capitulation or consensus, but decency and honesty.

     In this way, it's not that I see the CPC as wrong, but as textbook fascists.

     Your ancestors tried to build the best world they could for their descendants and you see that as some sort of character flaw. No other racial group does that.
     
     At it's core: how is your view of politics good for White people, what's in it for them?

     @EvilSandmich You're seeing everything through race, though. I disagree that human rights are zero sum, but even if my head's up my ass, why is that marker of who gets rights and who doesn't? If we're got limited capacity, wouldn't our interests be best served by merit? You think I'd be eligible or you? Who decides? Or is it your claim that race is everything?

     And be real, our ancestors were only putting cash into the hands of the aristocracy. They didn't give a damn what they were creating.

     Whites in America were already ethically cleansed from their cities by the empire, I think there's some reason for concern on their part that they're being ethnically cleansed from the rest of the country, especially since that's what's happening. Obviously for someone like yourself who hates White people you won't care, but that just gets back to my point of ideological discussions being dead.

     @EvilSandmich But just as I said in defense of O'Connell, where is this ethnic cleansing? What makes it real? I'm a cis white male, I don't hate myself or my culture. I look and see people mostly like me and recognize that I have an advantage due to historic wrongs I'm not responsible for, but I could help fix. Human rights is not a zero-sum game.

     I also recognize that what is keeping us down, is that which is perpetuated by those who claim the problem is race, ethnicity, gender or orientation.

     @EvilSandmich I never accused O'Connell or any other Republican of being part of a death squad. Where is this death squad? Who has this death squad killed?

     I'd say Mitch was complicit in an attempted coupe, maybe, but politicians don't get their hands dirty. Their craft is rhetoric, and conservative rhetoric is largely based on fear of the other - conspiracies such as the 'great replacement', hysteria over immigration. If a death squad comes, it will spring from their base, not their leaders.
