@synapsid@d0c40r0@PraxisOfEvil General aviation is still living in the past, if there’s ONE industry where you could make it by finding a boomer w/ a shop looking for a self-actualized “hard worker” it’s that one.
The only kid I knew was able to dip a toe into that sphere was because his dad was a pilot and knew the people at the local airport. If you think some 22 year old kid can just go up to his local airport and as to 'work on the plane's engines' to 'get some experience', I've got a bridge to sell you.
Okay Mr. Boomer, name 5 cars a college kid could afford today that still have carburetors in them. Hell, just name 5 cars a broke college kid could afford to buy. Oh you can't? Wonder why....
@d0c40r0@synapsid@PraxisOfEvil There’s a new thing coming too, where they’re just selling the curriculum to ops so wrenchers can have a turnkey training syllabus ala 141 schools for their AMT apprentices. I think it might take hold when they realize they can foster their own people from scratch and keep them w/ the company the whole ride through
@d0c40r0@synapsid@PraxisOfEvil I’m talking run-of-the-mill 61 schools and even straight shops. Buddy told me about it last week, it was announced at OSH. Can’t remember who was doing it first, either PI or King
@d0c40r0@synapsid@PraxisOfEvil Kinda, shuffled stuff around and staged a few sales, skipped most of the shows and caught up w/ people whenever I had downtime. We aren’t dropping the $4k for a tent or any of that shit, never makes the money back.
Overall it’s not the best year, people not really in a spending mood but we’re did manage to offload a problem child for a good chunk of coin so we’re content.
@d0c40r0@synapsid@PraxisOfEvil I wasn’t supposed to be, I generally keep a wide birth from that place. It’s a death trap, every dumbass flying 14 hours a year converging into a kill funnel of nearsighted basicmed boomers w/ bad hearing trying to parse handheld commands
Did they end up fishing that T6 back out? Never heard anything about that
@d0c40r0@synapsid@PraxisOfEvil Yeah, IDC about that, we got plenty of those, was just wondering if we lost another piece of history. Then again it’s just a T-6, the gayest of the vintage WWII aircraft.
I’ve had too many convos w/ attendees not taking it seriously enough, majority are dipshits vastly overestimating the quality of pilots willing to head there. Even if YOU are good, you’re willingly heading into a conflux of like, 12,000 dipshits who are almost all flying very low annual times in the GA ecosystem. Unless a guy is logging like 25 good hours heading to new, busy charlie environments he’s not gonna be all that much better than a fresh PPL.
Super lol @ how WASP just bought two brand new texans, too. Whatever, not my department, not my problem. At least it wasn’t a cool plane.
and I agree, theres a lotta guys who have just enough hours to keep current and then they go fly 14 hours in a day at 12000 feet and think they won't be drowsy and inattentive, then they slam on the brakes in their pissy taildragger and end up nosing into the runway
