   What the fuck is a backpack and book icon doing on the search bar? Why is there a wether widget? Why the propaganda window I accidentally open 3 times a day?

   This is ridiculous.

     My Windows install had been slowly collapsing for years and it finally imploded after a few months into Win11. Switched to Linux and expected to hate it, but it’s the best experience I have had on a computer.

     You can set up plasma to run like i3 sorta. You can hotkey nearly anything and window positions can be fixed for any program.

     @Humpleupagus @LukeAlmighty @natsock i3 has tabbed display. I use it for my web browser desktop so I can run firefox and brave on one desktop and still have them both be full screen. Also by default all windows are full screen and opening new ones on the same desktop attaches them in a manner of speaking.
     
     One feature of linux desktops I've always used heavily is virtual desktops. With i3 it's cool because I can have each desktop behave however I want. You can even pop windows out and move them around if you actually want to.

     I recently discovered you can make any window Always On Top. What an awesome feature to have built-in.

     The one feature I wish it had is to be able to attach windows together by their edges or on top of each other with tabs (like a web browser, but with any set of windows). An OS called haiku has these features, though haiku isn't really ready for prime time. It looks like a useful feature though.

     @Humpleupagus @LukeAlmighty @natsock I think i3 customization is actually pretty powerful, but there are no guis to make it easier to make changes and be sure the changes you're making are what you want. It's a little harder to test out features but overall it's got a lot of things you can do with it if you take time editing your config (avoid copying someone's "best i3 config" and test every change).

     I've played with it, but never got too deep. Setting up zsh from scratch and getting my zshrc dialed in was enough work for me. I don't know how deep into ui management I want to dive.

     @Humpleupagus @LukeAlmighty @natsock yeah it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. That said if you do choose to toy with it some more the big thing is just make small incremental changes so that you can actually remember what you did and why. I think even when I upgrade to a faster beefer machine I will keep i3 because it's much simpler to update a config file and reload than muck about in guis (for me).
