The police don't have obstructions to collecting evidence and a judge won't throw it out. The media won't come to your defense. The average person will say you belong in prison. You will be caught, and you will go to jail.

     Both are bad for different reasons and focusing on which is worse won't be useful in a constructive conversation imo.
     "Yeah sure I killed a person but look at Timmy, he killed 2!" "Uh, akshully Timmy killed two because the other was for this reason so it's ok"
     They're both bad situations for different reasons. And yes, Europe is not perfect and has it's own issues.
     Now to focus back on the original topic: No, criminals shouldn't be let go free. Criminals should absolutely be put in prison and I am not even in favor of a system where you can pay X to stay out of prison because that only makes jail like a good excuse to take money from people, sometimes innocent ones.
     I'm sure it happened a lot that people got assuced falsely and had to pay to stay free, which wouldn't have happened if one didn't have such option (pay to stay out). This also creates further disadvantage between rich and poor people btw.
     However, forced labor also only gives makes jail time seem interesting because you get to legally use slave work.
     With all this said I also wanna point out I am no expert and what I said might be based off of misunderstanding of the american law so please if that's the case bear with me and tell me where I'm wrong.

     @raccoon @dushman @meso @dcc @malakai @lonelyowl @lantrix I am just saying that there are a lot of reasons we have a super high incarceration rate in addition to aggressive policing/sentencing
