     I don't believe I "idealize" or "romanticize" the past. There were a lot of undesirable things in the past. We can't go back to the past and shouldn't try to. We should look at what is valuable from the past to guide us in creating a better future. Saying that there was anything good or true or beautiful or transcendent in the past that we have forgotten brings the Reddit bugman out of the woodwork to say that everyone in the past was retarded and rolled around in shit for 25 years before dying.

     @ArdainianRight Not too long ago I watched a couple of videos by Johnny Harris on Youtube along the lines of "How Europe Carved Up The World" or something like that. Sounded like interesting premise but I don't think he got a minute into before he said "Most europeans were gross dirty and covered in shit how did they steal the world!?" quickly lost interested after that.

     @ArdainianRight That's the one thing I'd say that's different, there was hope. Computers were advancing at such a rapid pace and the potential of the internet was still being realized. There was still a healthy space program and we were looking forward to a bright new millennium, that Jetsons future we felt we were promised. There's a reason Y2K Futurism was a thing.
     
     Then we had the .com bubble bursting, 9/11, the housing crisis, forever wars, and smartphones instead. Even the big technological breakthrough of the now, AI, horrifies people rather than inspires them. That's why the stereotypical style of the now is all escapist and nostalgic. No hope.

I will say objectively that the 80s were magnitudes whiter and better. The 90s was an anti-white onslaught starting with NWA on the radio and the overthrow of Apartheid, and ending with Dennis Rodman prancing around in full drag and Bill Clinton sticking a cigar up some jewess’s pussy in the Oval Office. Movies like Falling Down and Fight Club are better commentaries on the 90s than the show Friends.

But, to his credit, Reagan was notoriously pro-Apartheid in the face of the Left’s favorite pet cause in the 80s (as was Margaret Thatcher, to a large degree) and Reagan even famously vetoed the Ant-Apartheid Act of 1986, only to have the veto overriden by Congress. So at least in black vs white racial terms, Reagan’s head was in the correct place, despite how advanced his Alzheimer’s had become by the time of his second term.
